LSE Pirates drop two against Southern Boone

The LSE Pirates seventh and eighth grade football teams fell on the road last Tuesday against Southern Boone of Ashland by the scores of 44-6 and 14-8, respectively.

While the loss dropped the LSE Pirates seventh grade football team to 1-1 on the season, head coach Curtis Walk said the boys battled in the first half. “We came out and just turned the ball over and they capitalized,” Walk said. “We need to take care of the ball and do the little things. Ilook forward to big things from this group of kids.”

LSE trailed Southern Boone by just eight (14-6)at the half but was outscored 30-0 in the second half.

Braylon Ellison led the Pirates with 15 carries for 96 yards and one touchdown. Cash Leonard finished the game with seven carries for 32 yards while Brad Norbury had five carries for 26 yards, Logan Conz one carry for 22 yards, Norman Bonaparte two carries for 12 yards, RJCarney two carries for 9 yards and Clayton Schuster two carries for 6 yards and 1 for 1 passing for 22 yards.

On defense, Ellison had six solo stops and three assisted tackles while Cash Leonard added six solo stops, Darrin Leonard three solos and three assists, Baylor Jackson three solos and two assists, RJCarney and Brody Porter each with four solos, Carter Felten three solos, Brad Norbury two solos and Zyreb Mack with one solo.

In the eighth grade game, the LSE Pirates led Southern Boone 8-6 at the half but surrendered a touchdown and two point conversion in the fourth quarter to suffer the loss.

Walk said the kids worked hard but came up just short. “We will work on the little things to close out the games,” Walk said. “We just couldn’t get much going offensively.”

Rhad Leathers completed 1 of 4 passes in the game for LSE with 82 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Cooper Pfeiffer finished the game with nine carries for 26 yards while hauling in one pass for 2 yards and one touchdown. D’Avion Jones added eight carries for 42 yards while Isaac Watring had three carries for 12 yards and Evan Bishop three carries for 5 yards.

On defense, Rhad Leathers finished the game with 11 solos and three assisted tackles. Evan Bishop added six solo stops while Max Rapp had four solo stops and two assisted tackles, Collin Cramer and Gage Medeiros each with four solo stops, Cooper Pfeiffer with three assisted tackles and Ziaha Evans with one interception.
