Grotjans holds on to beat Shelter Insurance

In Little League action Tuesday night at New Franklin, Grotjans defeated Shelter Insurance in a close game 7-4.

Although Grotjans wound up winning the game by three runs, Shelter Insurance had the bases loaded and the winning run at the plate before ending the game on a bloop back to the pitcher.

Grotjans also led from start to finish in the game by pushing across four runs in the first and one again in the fourth to go up 5-0. Then, after Shelter Insurance rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-3, Grotjans came back and outscored Shelter Insurance 2-1 in the sixth for the win.

Lane Hackman picked up the win on the mound for Grotjans while Landon Shaw took the loss for Shelter Insurance. Hackman pitched the first-four innings and struck out 11 batters while giving up one walk. Noah Hackman then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four batters.

For Shelter Insurance, Shaw pitched all six innings and struck out 14 batters while giving up seven runs on nine hits and four walks.

Lane Hackman also led the hitting attack in the game for Grotjans with three singles. Nolan McGowan finished the game with one single and two doubles while Quincy Dorson added two singles and Daniel Hackman with one single.

For Shelter Insurance, Caden Schlotzhauer and Haven Singleton each had one home run while Ryder Hopkins added one double and Dylan Miller with one single.

Haven Singleton had one double and three home runs, and teammate Dommick Finn added one single, one triple and two home runs to lead Shelter Insurance past Grotjans in New Franklin Little League action on Friday, July 24 in New Franklin.

Shelter Insurance opened the game with one run in the first and then sent two runs across in the third, four again in the fourth, seven in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Caden Schlotzhauer finished the game for Shelter Insurance with two singles, one triple and one home run.

Colten Schlotzhauer added two singles and one triple while Casten Jennings added two singles and one double, Dylan Miller with two singles and Hayden Schlotzhauer with one single.

For Grotjans, Nolan McGowan had two singles while Quincy Dorson and Caylub Cox added one single each.

Shelter Insurance held a 7-3 lead over Grotjans in the first inning and never looked back for a 19-4 win.

Shelter Insurance scored at least two runs in every inning and led Grotjans 7-3 after one, 9-4 after two, 12-4 after three and 14-4 after four before adding five more runs in the fifth.

Caden Schlotzhauer picked up the win in relief for Shelter Insurance while Nolan McGowan took the loss for Grotjans.

Landon Shaw started the game for Shelter Insurance and gave up three runs on four walks in one inning. Schlotzhauer then came in and pitched five innings and allowed just one run on one hit and seven walks while striking out 15 batters.

For Grotjans, McGowan pitched one inning and gave up seven runs on one hit and eight walks while striking out one. Gabe Cotten then came in and pitched two innings and surrendered five runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three batters. Meanwhile, after Josh Marshall pitched one inning and issued two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters, Daniel Hackman came in and pitched one inning and yielded five runs on two hits and four walks while striking out two batters.

Shelter Insurance also out-hit Grotjans 8-1, with Dylan Miller finishing the game with one triple and one home run. Caden Schlotzhauer had one double and one home run while Dominick Finn added one double and one triple, Landon Shaw with one home run and Haven Singleton with one single.

Nolan McGowan had the only hit in the game for Grotjans with one home run.
