Middle School Roundup: LSE Pirates drop 2 against Southern Boone
The LSE Pirates seventh and eighth grade football team dropped two games on the road Tuesday night against the Southern Boone Eagles, losing by the scores of 36-0 and 42-0, respectively.
The eighth grade team fell to 1-1 on the season while the seventh grade team dropped to 0-2.
LSE football coach Seth Brimer said it wasn’t the outcome the Pirates wanted but the kids never quit. “We hit a lot of adversity with some injuries, and kids having to play out of position, but they never gave up,” Brimer said. “We can build off these games and used these as learning experience and get better. Good news is we have a week off before we travel to play the California Pintos on the 28th of September.”
In the seventh grade game, Southern Boone led Boonville 16-0 at the half with a touchdown and two point conversion in each quarter. The Eagles also scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to extend the lead to 28-0 before adding another touchdown and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
Chase Chamberlain led the rushing attack in the game for LSE with 12 carries for 62 yards. Tatum Hough finished the game with two carries for 5 yards while completing 2 of 3 passes for 2 yards to Chamberlain. Dylan Clark had three carries for 2 yards.
On defense, Chamberlain, Clark and Hough each had a total of five tackles in the game. Chamberlain finished with four solos, one assisted and one tackle for loss, while Clark had four solos, one assisted, one tackle for loss, one sack and one interception and Hough with four solos, one assisted and two tackles for losses. Tyler Fizer added four solo tackles and two tackles for loss, while Sammy Hage had two solos, two assists and one tackle for loss, Blaine Begemann three assisted tackles, Kaden Thacker one solo and two assisted tackles, Alex McDonald with two assisted tackles, and Reece Townlain, Jett Storm, Jason Fizer and Gavin Ridgeway each with one assisted tackle.
In the eighth grade game, Southern Boone led Boonville 16-0 after the first quarter and 22-0 at the half before putting up 14 more points in the third and six in the fourth.
Clayton Schuster led the Pirates in both rushing and passing with five carries for 30 yards while completing 6 of 11 passes for 55 yards. Gabe Gander finished the game with one carry for 7 yards, while Brad Norbury had four carries for 7 yards, Cash Leonard one carry for 6 yards, Aiden Meyers one carry for 4 yards, and Parker Brenner two carries for 3 yards. Leonard also had two receptions for 27 yards, while Logan Conz added two for 11 yards and Darrin Leonard one for 10 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball for LSE, Schuster led the Pirates with three solo stops and two assisted tackles along with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Logan Turk finished the game with three solo stops and one assisted tackle, while Brad Norbury added two solo stops and two assisted tackles, Baylor Jackson two solo stops, one assisted tackle, one tackle for loss and one sack, Brody Porter one solo stop and two assisted tackles, Darrin Leonard two assisted tackles and one fumble recovery, Logan Conz one solo stop, one assisted tackle and one tackle for loss, Carter Felten two solo stops and one tackle for loss, Parker Brenner two solo stops, Zyren Mack two assisted tackles, Aiden Meyers one solo stop, and Austin Ellifrit with one assisted tackle.
Ss. Peter & Paul volleyball wins in 2 straight sets against So. Boone
The Ss. Peter & Paul girls eighth grade volleyball team defeated Southern Boone in two straight sets Friday night 25-23, 25-22.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Carol Griffin said the Lady Warriors played against a very talented Southern Boone team. “They have great servers and hitters,” Griffin said. “This group of girls really gel together tonight,” Griffin said. “They are communicating and uplifting each other. Bella (Imhoff) played strong at the net, and Mabry (Caton) served and set well. Everyone played their role. Lauren and Delaney came on strong with their hitting. Ellise had strong setting and hitting, and Addison and Kylie helped with passing.”
Mabry Caton led the Lady Pirates with seven aces along with two assists, one kill and one dig. Bella Imhoff had five aces, four kills and one block, while Ellise Kirchner added four assists, 00000 Thompson two kills and one ace, Delaney Rowlett two kills, Kylie Imhoff with one assist, and 00000 Johnson with one ace.
In the seventh grade match, Southern Boone won in three sets against Ss. Peter & Paul 17-25, 25-15 and 6-15.
Griffin said it was a great night of volleyball. “I am proud of how these girls played against Southern Boone,” Griffin said. “We took them to three sets and never gave up. We will continue to work on passing and serving. Katie Drummond continues to help lead the team in scoring. Our young players have stepped up their game and have help the team tremendously.”
Drummond led the Lady Warriors with seven aces and one attack attempt. Venable finished the match with one ace and one attack attempt, while Frederick added one kill.
