New Franklin and Prairie Home’s cross-country teams gave great effort last Friday while competing in the Mexico 5K.

While the Bulldogs had only one runner compete in the meet, as Doug Creason finished 32nd out of 90 runners in a time of 20:27.05, the Prairie Home boys and girls had a total of seven runners participate in the meet.

Prairie Home coach Marie Pope said this was the first meet that the Panthers have participated as a full team for the first time. Pope also said three of the seven runners were competing in their first-ever race.

Savanna Tracy had the fastest time for the Lady Panthers by finishing in 33rd place in 26:09. Aubree Hedgpeth placed 69th overall in a personal record time of 34:01, while Kelcy Mullett took 72nd overall with a personal record time of 34:34.

For the Prairie Home boys, Wyatt Case turned in the fastest time by finishing in 59th place with a personal record time of 23:11. Landon Case finished in 63rd place in 23:36, followed by Preston Scheidt in 82nd place in 26:34, and Will Wright in 83rd place in a time of 26:34.

Pope said Scheidt beat his previous best by over two minutes and 34 seconds.

Ben Chance of Bowling Green had the fastest time in the meet in 17:33.39, while Jozelynn Bostick of Centralia turned in a time of 20:35.97 to lead the field in the girls race.
