Absentee voting for the Aug. 4 primary election, which will include an initiative on Medicaid expansion, will begin Tuesday, Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon said in a news release.

Under a new state law, there are two options for voting by mail. Voters who request a ballot because they are incapacitated, confined due to illness of any kind or at-risk for catching COVID-19 can request an absentee ballot and return their ballots without notarization.

Voters can request to cast their ballot by mail without an excuse but must have their ballot notarized.

Absentee voters can return their ballots by mail or in-person, with curbside collection available upon request. Voters who request a mail-in ballot without an excuse must return their votes by mail, Lennon said in the release.

The deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot is July 22.
