Nikki Eaton, committee member for Santa Fe Trail Days, still has fond memories growing up going to the two day event in New Franklin.

In its 46th year of hosting the event, Eaton said this also marks the 200th anniversary of the trail itself this year.

Nonetheless, the Santa Fe Trail Days will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 17-18 in downtown New Franklin with a little bit of everything on both days.

Eaton said while the Santa Fe Trail Days will consist of some of the same things over the years, this year the committee sat down and decided to add a few new things such as a two person log competition. Also back, Eaton said is the Burn Circus and the Little Miss and Mr. Contest as well as the parade Saturday morning. “We’ll have several different bands coming in to play in the parade, and then Friday night at the beer garden we will have Suthurn Justus playing. In addition, we’ve also added cornhole competition and games for kids such as a fish tank, where they can go and catch as many fish as they can.”

Friday’s activities will begin at 6 p.m. with vendors up and down the streets of New Franklin along with Classic Car Cruise In from 6-8 p.m., bounce houses from 6-9 p.m. ($5 wristbands), beer garden from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., teen dance from 8-11 p.m., 50/50 raffle (must be present to win) from 8:30-9:30 p.m., Southern Justice in the beer garden from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Burn Circus from 9:30 p.m.

Santa Fe Trail Days will also have plenty of events on Saturday. Baby and Little Miss and Mr. Contest will have signups from 8-9:30 a.m., followed by a silent auction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., baby contest at 9:30 a.m. with Little Miss and Mr. Contest to follow, goldfish contest (ages 3-12) at 11:30 a.m., National Anthem and salute to the flag at 12:30 p.m., parade at 1 p.m., frozen t-shirt contest at 2:30 p.m., gold fishing contest at 2:45 p.m., cornhole tournament at 2:30 p.m., and adult tricycle race from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The dunk tank will follow the parade until 6 p.m., as will the bounce house until 9 p.m., and the beer garden until 1 a.m.

Raffles will also be held for a Golden Boy Large Loop .22 S/LR engraved. Tickets are $10 each or $20 for three. Must be 18 years or older, and legally able to take possession of firearm. Also to be raffled off is a Pit Boss 850G Navigator Series Grill with cover and folding front shelf. Tickets are $10 each or $20 for three.

Drawings will take place on Saturday, September 18. Winners will be notified by phone and announced on the Santa Fe Trail Days Facebook page.

Eaton said still has fun memories of Santa Fe Trail Days while growing up in New Franklin. “It’s remembering history and bringing the community together,” Eaton said.  “I was there a lot as a child and I remember all the fun memories, doing stuff with old friends. New Franklin doesn't have a whole lot, so this is something that brings a crowd in and brings attention to our town and businesses around here.”
