Boonville senior wrestler Eliza Adams put her best foot forward Tuesday night while finishing fourth in the School of the Osage Tournament.
While competing in the 135 pound weight class, Adams finished the tournament with a record of 2-2.
Boonville wrestling coach Justin Hahn said he didn’t know what to expect for the first girls tournament.
“There were some tough teams and several returning medalist from last year,” Hahn said.  “Eliza had a great tournament. She won her second match with a nice chicken wing for a pin.  Meanwhile, in the third and fourth place match, she tossed Olivia Chapman to her back for five points before she was reversed and pinned.  She has lost five times this year and four of them have been to Olivia Chapman of Eldon.  There were two returning state medalist in the bracket and Eliza placed ahead of one of them.”
After losing her quarterfinal match by fall against Chapman in 2:32, Adams came back with two straight wins by pinning Adrian Sparks of Southern Boone in 1:26 and picking up an injury default against Janeth Quinones of Monett. Meanwhile, in the third place match, Adams lost to Chapman for the second time in the tournament by fall in 1:55.
Senior wrestler Sarah Miller also picked up valuable experience while competing in the 187 pound weight class.
Although Miller finished 0-2, Hahn said the senior grappler was winning her first match 5-2 in the third period but made a mistake and was pinned. “It was a good learning experience and I expect Sarah to bounce back at the Higginsville Tournament this weekend,” Hahn said.
In her two matches, Miller lost by fall in the quarterfinals against Megan Petty of Marshfield in 4:52. Meanwhile, in the consolation round, Miller was pinned in the second period by Kirsten Kilby of Capital City in 3:13.
The Boonville boys and girls wrestling teams will compete in the Higginsville Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1.
