The goal was simple for the Boonville Pirates wrestling team Tuesday night on the road in a triangular meet at Blair Oaks.
Although a sweep would have been perfect against Blair Oaks and Southern Boone, head coach Justin Hahn would have settled for a split.
As it turned out, the Pirates got neither as Blair Oaks defeated Boonville 40-36 while Southern Boone won 45-30.
The loss dropped Boonville to 5-14 overall and 1-5 in the Tri-County Conference.
As for the Boonville girls wrestling team, they also fell in two matches by losing to Blair Oaks 24-10 and to Southern Boone 18-6.
The two losses dropped the Lady Pirates to 2-7-1 on the season.
Hahn said the two matches was a tale of two stories.
“Our goal was to score 27 on Blair Oaks and to beat Southern Boone,” Hahn said. “We started out the night against Blair Oaks and did great. We put 36 up on them and beat our goal by nine. Caleb Martin got us rolling with a big pin at 120. Dakota Rapp and Dustyn Taylor both had nice wins by fall. Peyton Hahn’s goal was to widen the gap between him and his Blair Oaks’ opponent.
“The last time he faced Gilmore, he won by decision. Tonight he beat him by fall. In our second dual of the night, we didn’t do as well. We had two swing matches and lost them both. Travis Dell and Brayden McFarland both had nice falls but Southern Boone beat us head to head 4-2. We need to work hard in the next couple of weeks because both of these teams will be at districts.”
While finishing 4-3 in actual matches against Blair Oaks, Caleb Martin picked up Boonville’s first win in the 120 pound weight class with a fall over Quinten Denney in 3:00.
However it wasn’t until the 182 pound weight class that Boonville  would have its hand raised again to signal a victory. In that match, senior Dakota Rapp won by fall over Adam Jurgensmeyer in 1:50.
