The New Franklin boys and girls basketball teams picked up a pair of wins Thursday night in the W-K Holiday Shootout at State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
While the New Franklin boys improved to 8-0 on the season with a convincing 76-13 win over Tuscumbia, the Lady Bulldogs won a nailbiter against the Lions 41-40.
With five players in double figures in the game, the Bulldogs also outscored Tuscumbia in all four quarters and led 31-4 after one, 55-4 at the half and 65-6 after three quarters of play. New Franklin also outscored the Lions 11-7 in the final period.
New Franklin coach Ross Dobson said this was a good way to finish off the first semester. “We will take some time off and enjoy the holidays and will return preparing for our tournament and conference play,” Dobson said.
Tyler Perkins and Carter Bailey each had 13 points in the game for New Franklin. Gavin Bishop and Caleb Hull chipped in 12 points each while Tre Cowans added 10 points, Crayton Gallatin and Tysen Dowell five points each and Jackson Dorson and Tyler Jennings with two points apiece.
For Tuscumbia, Miles Harris had five points.
As for the New Franklin Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 4-4 on the season, they led Tuscumbia 24-12 at the half but was outscored 28-17 in the second half to win by one.
New Franklin coach Morgan Vetter said the team had a big time shot in the final seconds to seal the win. “We’re ready for a little break before heading into our own tournament,” Vetter said.
Abby Maupin led the scoring attack in the game for New Franklin with 13 points. Kristen Flick chipped in seven points while Justice Singleton added six points, Addy Salmon and Carly Dorson each with five points, Faith Painter three points and Madelyn Chaney and Campbell Cooper each with one point.
Kylee Ash had 17 points to lead all scorers for Tuscumbia.
