The Boonville boys freshmen basketball team fell at home Thursday night against the Mexico Bulldogs 56-46.
The Pirates, 1-3 on the season, trailed Mexico 26-18 at the half before rallying back with a 20-15 advantage in the third quarter to cut the lead back to three at 41-38. However, in the final period, Mexico outscored Boonville 15-8 to win the game by 10.
“We overcame a sluggish start to pull within four points in the third quarter,” said Boonville freshmen coach Blake Hackman. “I was proud of our guys efforts to get us back in the game, but we didn’t put four quarters of basketball together.”
Colby Caton led the scoring attack for Boonville with 20 points. Cameron Poulsen chipped in eight while Edrissa Bah and Jordan Fishburn added six points each, Max Eckerle three and Caidyn Hazel with two.
For Mexico, Chatman had 20 points.
