The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team have looked good in one game and not so good in another while falling to Community 11-1 on Monday and beating Glasgow 8-3 on Tuesday.
In the loss against Community, New Franklin trailed throughout the entire game as the Trojans led 3-0 after two, 3-1 after three, 6-1 after four and 9-1 after five before adding two more runs in the sixth.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said Community is leading the Central Activities Conference. “Community is a very athletic team that knows how to compete and win,” Dowell said. “They put a lot of pressure on your team. We did not play well with six errors, not counting 3-4 mental errors. It’s hard to beat any team the way we played tonight.”
Alexia Sprick took the loss in the circle for New Franklin and struck out five batters while giving up six runs on five hits and four walks in four innings. Abby Maupin then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one batter.
Angel picked up the win for Community. The Trojans also out-hit New Franklin 9-3.
Abby Maupin went 2-for-3 in the game for New Franklin with a double, home run and one RBI while Isabelle Matney added one single.
In the game on Tuesday, New Franklin and Glasgow were tied at 3-all after three innings. But that all changed from the fourth inning on as the Lady Bulldogs plated one in the fourth, three again in the sixth and one in the seventh for the victory.
Dowell said if the Lady Bulldogs could have erased the third inning they would have played well defensively. “Offensively we struggled and did not hit the ball very hard. We did bunt the ball very well a couple of times.”
Alexia Sprick picked up the complete game victory for New Franklin by giving up three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out seven batters.
New Franklin also out-hit Glasgow 7-5, with Abby Maupin going 3-for-5 with three singles and one RBI. Alexia Sprick had two hits and three RBIs while Addy Salmon and Carly Dorson added one single and one RBI.
