The Boonville Lady Pirates tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night on the road, losing to School of the Osage 7-2.
The Lady Pirates, 2-1 on the season, picked up wins at No. 2 and 5 singles against Osage with Emma Neidig beating Kylie Meisenheimer 8-3 and Molly Amos prevailing 8-5 over Marley Corpe.
Boonville tennis coach Melissa Harvey said match No. 3 this week started out slow during doubles but grew in intensity during singles. “Neidig and Corbitt had some trouble getting warmed up in their doubles match but were able to step up their play in their singles,” Harvey said. “Neidig was on fire tonight during her singles match. She had precision, consistency and was able to move her opponent with her key ball placement. Corbitt had better form in her singles match and put up a good battle with her opponent to score five points. Amos was also a fighter tonight. Her opponent was equally matched but she pushed through the points to end with a win. Hendrix and Pannell came out strong tonight with good form and enthusiasm to secure the win. Webster and Martin used good communication and footwork during their match and were excited to come out on top.”
In other singles matches, No. 1 player Abbie Grizzle fell to Elise Davis 8-2. At No. 3 singles, Kali Corbitt fell to Emma Glendenning 8-5. At No. 4 singles, Jessica Lammers fell to Natalie Brick 8-2. Meanwhile, at No. 5 singles, Danielle Dillon fell to Emma Koeppen 8-2.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Grizzle and Lammers fell to Davis and Brick 9-7. At No. 2 doubles, Neidig and Corbitt lost to Meisenheimer and Corpe 8-1. Meanwhile, at No. 3 doubles, Dillon and Amos fell to Glenn and Koepper 8-1.
In JV action, Osage defeated Boonville 5-2.
Recording wins for Boonville was the No. 3 doubles team of Lilli Hendrix and Abby Pannell 6-2 and the No. 4 team of Arji Alexa Webster and Martin by the same identical score of 6-2.
In other matches, Ella Kearns and Hailey James fell at No. 1 JV doubles 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Amelia Widel and Martha Waller lost 6-0. At No. 5 doubles, Alyssa Fitzgerald and Kate Schneringer fell 6-4. At No. 6 doubles, Haylie Mendez and Jordyn Williamson fell 6-3. Meanwhile, at No. 7 doubles, Alyssa Fitzgerald and Kira Phelps fell 6-1.
