Moberly’s 12U softball team picked up a sweep by beating A-Bow-K Thursday night at Rolling Hills park by the scores of 24-8 and 6-4.
In the first game, Moberly and A-Bow-K played to a 7-7 tie after one inning. However, in the second inning, Moberly outscored A-Bow-K 17-1 to win by the mercy rule.
Mallory Brown picked up the win in the circle for Moberly while Addison Johnson took the loss for A-Bow-K. Brown pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs on one hit and 10 walks while striking out four batters. Johnson, meanwhile, pitched two innings and allowed 10 runs on five hits and five walks. Amera Wright then came in and pitched part of the second inning and surrendered 14 runs on two hits and eight walks.
Moberly also out-hit A-Bow-K 7-1, with Julia Sloan going 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs. Paige Westhues finished the game with one single and three RBIs while Tori Ricketts and Macie Harmon added one single and two RBIs each, Ayla King and Addison Schiltz each with one single and one RBI and Breanna Morgan with one RBI.
For A-Bow-K, Cayle John had one single and one RBI while Kierstyn Woodruff added two RBIs and Kaylee Casey and Kaelyn Townlain each with one run batted in.
In the nightcap, A-Bow-K led Moberly 3-2 after 2 1/2 but then surrendered three runs in the bottom half of the third and one again in the fourth to suffer the loss.
Mallory Brown was the winning pitcher in the game for Moberly, who improved to 4-0 on the season, while Addison Johnson took the loss for A-Bow-K. Brown pitched 4 2/3 innings and struck out 12 batters while giving up four runs on one hit and nine walks. Johnson, meanwhile, pitched four innings and allowed six runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters.
Moberly also out-hit A-Bow-K 4-1, with Ayla King going 1-for-1 with a single and one RBI. Madison Thompson, Mallory Brown and Addison Schiltz also had one single each while Julia Sloan drove in two runs.
For A-Bow-K, who dropped to 0-2, Kierstyn Woodruff had one single and one RBI.
