The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team had the perfect incentive Wednesday night against School of the Osage.
After falling to Osage earlier in the season 5-3, the Lady Pirates came back on Wednesday with two goals from sophomore Jordynn Kempf and one from senior Sariana Barbarotta to beat the Lady Indians 3-0.
While finishing the regular season at 5-8 overall, head coach Kaz Hazell said with it being senior night the underclassmen wanted the seniors to end on a good note while playing at home for the very last time. “Everyone stepped up to the challenge knowing it wasn’t going to be an easy game,” Hazell said. “This was a great game compared to the last time, where Osage took the win.”
Considering that the starting goalie for Boonville was out with a concussion, senior Zoe Coffelt and freshman MacKenzee Troost more than held their own against Osage. Troost finished the game with seven saves while Coffelt came up with several saves in the first half.
As for the scoring, Kempf got the Lady Pirates on the board with back to back goals in the first half-the first coming at the four minute mark and the second at the 32 minute mark. Barbarotta had the assist on both goals to put Boonville up 2-0 at the half.
The Lady Pirates would score again at the 50 minute mark, this time with Barbarotta scoring on an assist from Olivia Browning to extend the lead to 3-0.
Boonville also finished the game with four shot attempts and eight shots on goal while Osage had just one shot attempt.
In the JV match, Osage defeated Boonville 1-0 with the only scoring in the game coming at the 4 minute mark.
Coach Hazell said the JV team lost to a scrappy team in Osage. “I am proud of all the growth we have seen from our JV girls throughout the season,” Hazell said.
The JV team finished the season at 6-5 overall.
