The New Franklin boys and girls middle school track teams recorded a total of three first place finishes while competing in the St. Mary’s Relays last Saturday in Glasgow.
While the girls finished fourth overall with 57 points and the boys fifth with 50 points, head coach Morgan Vetter said the athletes competed well even given the busy week they had. “We had many athletes medal and many athletes set new PRs,” Vetter said. “We look forward to building off the success we had Saturday and turning that over into our next track meet in Glasgow.”
Capturing first place finishes for New Franklin were Kelsi Fair in the shot put with a toss of 30’-7”, Faith Painter in the 100 meter dash in 14.58 seconds and the boys 4 x 400-meter relay team of Drake Clark, Gavin Rule, Gavin Eaton and Jacob Marshall in 4:57.17.
Painter also took second in the 200 meter dash in a time of 30.49 seconds, as did the girls 4 x 100 meter relay team of Kelsi Fair, Addy Salmon, Elaina Henderson and Faith Painter in 1:00.52, the girls 4 x 400 meter relay team of Addy Salmon, Ruby Simpson, Elaina Henderson and Carly Dorson in 5:04.5, Jacob Marshall in both the 800 meter run in 2:36.03 and 1600 meter run in 5:43.2 and Drake Clark in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 21.7 seconds.
Third place finishers were Carly Dorson in the 800 meter run in 3:01 and Drake Clark in the high jump at 4’-10”.
Fourth place finishers were Addy Salmon in the high jump at 4’-0”, Jacob Marshall in the high jump at 4’-8” and Drake Clark in the 400 meter dash in 1:08.7.
Finishing fifth were Carly Dorson in the 1600 meter run in 6:51 and the girls 4 x 200 meter relay team of Jayna Matthews, Ruby Simpson, Kelsi Fair and Addy Salmon in 2:18.16.
Painter also placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 11’-9”.
