The New Franklin baseball team did everything in its power to give the game away Tuesday night while trailing Slater 2-0 in the first inning.
Of course the Bulldogs would settle down after that while putting up 15 unanswered runs over the next four innings to beat Slater by a score of 15-4.
“We started off very poorly in all phases again,” said New Franklin coach Erich Gerding. “We committed four errors in the bottom of the first, which led to two unearned runs. Koy Harris did a great job sticking it out and we finall came around offensively. Koy got a much deserved win. Gavin Bishop also continued his great approach at the plate and Zac Held had some more great at bats for us.”
Koy Harris picked up the win on the mound for New Franklin and surrendered four runs on four hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings. Harris also struck out five batters. Caleb Hull then came in and pitched 2/3 inning in relief with two strikeouts.
New Franklin also out-hit Slater 9-4, with Gavin Bishop going 3-for-3 with a single, double, home run and three RBIs. Zac Held was 2-for-3 with a single, double and three RBIs while Colten Collyott doubled and drove in two runs. Tysen Dowell also doubled in the game while Crayton Gallatin and Koy Harris added a single and one RBI each.
