Prairie Home’s Blake Petsel, Ryan Small and Lyrik Tracy all had something in common while competing in the Harrisburg Meet last week.
They all captured first place in their respective events. For Petsel, the Missouri Valley baseball signee was a double winner after placing first in the 200 meter dash in 24.23 seconds and first in the triple jump with a leap of 32.08 seconds. Small, meanwhile, placed first in the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 20.10 seconds while Tracy took first in the triple jump with a jump of 28’-11 1/2”.
Prairie Home coach Marie Pope said this meet is always a great opportunity for the athletes to compete against almost all of their conference schools and to see how they might stack up against the competition at conference on Tuesday. “We are really impressed with the continue improvement across the board,” Pope said. “Our high school athletes are great leaders, and our middle school athletes are learning an enormous amount in such a short time.”
Schools competing in the meet along with Prairie Home were Bunceton, Harrisburg, Higbee, Jamestown, Pilot Grove and Slater.
The Prairie Home boys finished third out of seven teams with 86 points while the Lady Panthers took fifth out of six teams with 50 points.
Petsel also took second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.65 seconds while Small finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 52.31 seconds.
Other notable place finishers for Prairie Home were Clayton Pethan with a third place finish in both the 100 meter dash in 12.06 seconds and 200 meter dash in 24.86 seconds and a fourth place finisher in the long jump at 16’-9”. Gabe Turner took third in the long jump at 16’-11”, third in the triple jump at 32’-3” and fifth in the discus with a throw of 89’-9 1/2”. Allen Haslag finished fifth in the 1600 in 6:01.34 and seventh in the triple jump at 28’-10”. Austin Small, meanwhile, finished fifth in the 400 meter dash in 1:02.50 and 12th in the 200 meter dash in 30.35 seconds.
In addition to placing first in the triple jump for the Lady Panthers, Tracy also took fifth in the 300 hurdles in 21.56 seconds and seventh in the 100 meter dash in 14.99 seconds.
Kelsey Watson finished second in the discus with a toss of 85’-6”, third in the 100 meter dash in 14.38 seconds and ninth in the long jump at 12’-4 1/2”. Savanna Tracy placed second in the 1600 meter run in 6:44.87 and third in the 300 hurdles in 21.25 seconds. Allison Simmons, meanwhile, finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 27’-2”, seventh in the discus at 51’-0” and 10th in the javelin at 50’-1”.
