Boonville senior Sariana Barbarotta had time on her side Monday night against the Clinton Lady Cardinals.
With four more matches before the district tournament, Barbarotta took matters into her own hands against Clinton with two goals-No. 7 and 8 on the season-to lead the Lady Pirates past Clinton in a tight game 2-1.
While the win improved Boonville’s record to 3-7 overall, head coach Kaz Hazell said this was a big win for the girls on the road. “It was a slow start, but the end result is what we have been looking for,” Hazell said. “Sariana had both goals on the game. There was a late penalty kick in the second half, where Clinton could have tied it up, however, Sarah Miller made a big save to help us get the win. Sarah was a huge factor in tonight’s game to help with the win. Goalies do not get a lot of credit, but tonight Sarah helped us out. The girls worked hard even with our numbers being low.”
Barbarotta’s first goal of the match came at the 25 minute mark in the first half on an unassisted shot to give the Lady Pirates the lead at 1-0. Meanwhile, in the second half, Barbarotta scored her first goal of the game on an assist from Jordynn Kempf at the 63 minute mark to extend the lead to 2-0. Then, to complete the scoring in the game, Clinton scored its only goal at the 65 minute mark.
Boonville finished the match with eight shot attempts and eight shots on goal while Clinton had two shot attempts and four shots on goal.
Junior goalie Sarah Miller also had seven saves in the match, which puts her at 92 in 10 games.
Boonville also won the JV match against Clinton 3-0.
Coach Hazell said Boonville’s JV, 5-3 on the season, has made a great difference in the way they played from the beginning of the season to now. “Still with not many numbers, we managed to take a 3-0 win against Clinton, with Jordynn Kempf stepping up and getting a hat trick. Also, with the help of MacKenzee Troost not letting any goals in and another shutout on her first year as a goalie.”
Kempf scored her first of three goals at the 5 minute mark on an assist from  Grace Bronakowski. Then, after scoring on an assisted goal at the 15 minute mark, Kempf came back with her third goal on an assist from Amanda Mize at the 27 minute mark to conclude the scoring.
Boonville’s JV also had four shot attempts and four shots on goal while Troost finished the match with three saves.
