The Bunceton Lady Dragons softball team was due for a big game. That time came Thursday night at home during a Pink Out Game as the Lady Dragons exploded for 15 runs on 15 hits to beat the Otterville Eagles 15-0.
Bunceton, improving to 2-8 on the season, opened the game with six runs in the bottom half of the first and then sent nine runs across in the third to win by the mercy rule.
Bunceton coach Ashton Hays said this was one of the best game that the girls had played so far. “We are improving every game,” Hays said. “We came out rattling the bats and ready to play. Big congrats to our two seniors-Taylor Burnett and Autumn Bishop. We have one more game at home then districts begin. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.”
Burnett picked up the win in the circle for Bunceton and struck out four batters while giving up just one hit and two walks. Kit Thompson, meanwhile, took the loss for Otterville.
As for the hitting in the game for Bunceton, Cara Bishop finished the game with three hits-one being a triple-and one RBI. Chloe Moser had a double, triple and two RBIs while Alyssa Welch added two singles and one RBI, Lexi Hein two singles and one RBI, Autumn Bishop and Amaris Vaca each with two singles and Taylor Burnett, Abby Young and Maddi Brandes with one single each.
Kylie Lawson had the only hit in the game for Otterville, being a single.
In the game Wednesday at home against Smithton, the Lady Dragons fell by a score of 15-9.
Although Smithton rallied back with nine runs in the seventh for the win, Bunceton led 4-0 in the opening frame before giving up six in the fourth. Then, after the Lady Dragons plated one in the bottom half of the fourth and four again in the sixth to go up 9-6, Smithton rallied once again with a nine-run seventh inning for the victory.
Madison Brown picked up the win in the circle for Smithton while Taylor Burnett took the loss for Bunceton. Brown pitched all seven innings and gave up nine runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out four batters. Burnett, meanwhile, pitched all seven innings for the Lady Dragons and allowed 15 runs on 15 hits and five walks while striking out four.
Mallory Hoehns had four hits in the game to lead all hitters for Smithton while Caitlin Frazee had three hits.
For Bunceton, Taylyn Heilman and Chloe Moser each had three hits and drove in one run. Autumn Bishop and Madison Davis each had two singles and one RBI while Taylor Burnett added two singles, Abby Young one single and one RBI and Cara Bishop and Amaris Vaca each with one RBI.
