The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team scored a season-high five goals, and sophomore Jordyn Kempf picked up a hat trick with three goals in a 5-1 win over Moberly Tuesday night in Moberly.
While the win was the first for Boonville in six matches, head coach Kaz Hazell saidthe girls came out strong and ready to play.
“This was the best night we have had all season,” Hazell said. “They possessed the ball really well in the middle. Olivia Gholson had a big game on assists, and Jordynn had a hat trick and helped us tremendously in the attack. Sariana was also back out on the field in the midfield for us as well. All around good team win, but we need to continue to grow and keep the positivity going for the games to come.”
Boonville never trailed in the match against Moberly but only led 2-1 at the half after an unassisted goal by Sariana Barbarotta at the 11 minute mark and a goal by Mille Dorman at the 32 minutes. Olivia Gholson had the assist on the goal by Dorman.
Moberly, meanwhile, scored its only goal of the match at the 13 minute mark to keep it close. However it was too much Jordynn Kempf and Gholson in the second half as the duo combined for two of the team’s three goals.
Kempf and Gholson hooked up for the first time at the 42 minute mark to extend the lead to 3-1. Then, after an unassisted goal by Kempf at the 59 minute mark to make it 4-1, Gholson and Kempf had their names called again for another goal at the 63 minute mark to complete the scoring.
Kempf now has five goals on the season while Jaden McKee and Sariana Barbarotta each had two goals and Mille Dorman with one goal.
Olivia Gholson also increased her assists total to six for the season.
Boonville also finished the match with 19 shot attempts and seven shots on goal while Moberly had one shot attempt and one shot on goal.
Junior goalie Sarah Miller also had five saves in the match to put her at 63 for the season.
Boonville also won the JV match against Moberly 3-0.
The Lady Pirates, 3-3 on the season, led Moberly 2-0 at the half on a goal by Quincy Carr and assist by Sydney Joy. Then, at the 17 minute mark, senior Coffelt scored an unassisted goal.
