New Franklin’s Faith Painter recorded a first and second place finish to lead the Lady Bulldogs in a Westran Open Middle School Meet Monday in Huntsville.
Painter finished first in the 200 in 30.44 seconds and second in the 100 in a time of 14.79 seconds.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs finished fourth overall with 42 points while the New Franklin boys placed 10th with 7 points. Westran boys captured first with 117 points while Marceline finished second with 104 points. For the girls, Marceline won the meet with 229 points. Cairo finished second with 80, followed by Cairo with 80, Westran 69 and New Franklin 42.
New Franklin middle school track coach Morgan Vetter said she thought everybody did well competing with the other schools and performing at their very best for the first track meet. “We look forward to a very busy week next week with three meets,” Vetter said.
The New Franklin girls 4 x 100-meter relay team finished third in a time of 1:02.52. Addy Salmon placed fourth in the high jump at 4’-2”, as did the girls 4 x 200 in 2:15.52. The girls 4 x 400-meter relay team also took fifth in a time of 6:07.35. Heaven Lee finished sixth in the 800 in 3:39 while Natalie Wiseman placed eighth in the same race in 3:43. Elaina Henderson tok seventh in the hurdles in a time of 20.91 seconds while Painter finished eighth in the long jump at 11’-1”.
For the New Franklin boys, Jacob Marshall finished sixth in the 400 in 1:09 and eighth in the hurdles in 21.3 seconds. Marshall and Drake Clark also took seventh and eighth, respectively, in the high jump at 4’-8”.
