The Prairie Home boys and girls track teams opened the 2019 season in the Westran Open on Wednesday.
While competing against a field of 11 teams, Prairie Home coach Marie Pope said it was a pretty great showing for the first meet of the season.
Teams competing in the meet along with Prairie Home were Community R-6, Fayette, Harrisburg, Madison, Marceline, New Franklin, Cairo, Salisbury, South Shelby, Sturgeon and Westran.
Senior Blake Petsel, who recently signed to play baseball with Missouri Valley College in Marshall, led the Panthers with a fourth place finish in both the 100 meter dash in 13 seconds and 200 meter dash in 25.39 seconds. Petsel also finished 13th overall in the triple jump at 32’-10 1/2”.
Clayton Pethan finished third in the 400 in 56.90 seconds and ninth in the long jump at 15’-11”. Ryan Small placed eighth in the 300 meter hurdles in 51.39 seconds and ninth in the 100 meter hurdles in 21.68 seconds. Allen Haslag took seventh in the 3200 in 13:02.68, 17th in the triple jump at 31’-5” and 20th in the discus at 62’-1”. Gabe Turner finished 12th in the long jump at 15’-2”, 16th in the triple jump at 32’-5” and 21st in the javelin at 83’-3”. Austin Small finished 15th in the 400 in 1:04.61 seconds, 20th in the javelin at 83’-6”, 20th in the long jump at 13’-1 1/2” and 25th in the 200 in 31.18 seconds. Blake Paulson took 16th in the discus at 75’-2”, 26th in the shot put at 25’-0”, 30th in the 100 in 18.60 seconds and 31st in the javelin at 35’-5”.
The Prairie Home boys 4 x 100-meter relay team of Pethan, Small, Turner and Petsel also finished sixth in 50.21 seconds.
For the Prairie Home girls, Kelsey Watson finished 7th in the long jump at 12’-4 1/2”, 10th in the discus at 77’-1” and 10th in the 100 meter dash in 15.08 seconds. Lyrik Tracy finished eighth in the 300 hurdles in 1:08.17, 10th in the long jump at 11’-11” and 11th in the 100 meter hurdles in 22.98 seconds. Savanna Tracy placed fourth overall in the 1600 in 6:54.51, 10th in the 100 meter hurdles in 22.88 seconds and 28th in the 100 meter dash in 16.41 seconds. Allison Simmons was 15th in the shot put at 25’-9”, 21st in the discus at 57’-5”, 26th in the javelin at 30’-7” and 32nd in the 100 meter dash in 17.50 seconds.
The Prairie Home boys finished ninth overall with 20 points while the Prairie Home girls placed 12th with 7.5 points.
