The New Franklin boys and girls basketball team had the perfect ending to the regular season Thursday night in CAC action at New Franklin.
While the Lady Bulldogs defeated Glasgow 49-38, the New Franklin boys won with three players scoring in double figures for a 57-51 win over the Yellowjackets.
The New Franklin, improving to 7-17 overall and 2-8 in the CAC, opened the first half with a 25-18 lead against Glasgow and then outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 24-20 in the second half for the victory.
New Franklin girls coach Morgan Vetter said this was a great team win. “I’m so proud of these girls and happy for the seniors to finish their last home basketball game with a win,” Vetter said. “We’re looking to build off this energy we have created this week.”
Abby Maupin led the scoring attack in the game for New Franklin with 19 points. Shelby Breshears chipped in 15 while Lauren Evans added eight, Kristen Flick four and Madelyn Chaney with three.
For Glasgow, Brenna Hubbard had 14 points while Madisyn Parks chipped in eight.
New Franklin also won at the free throw line by hitting 11 of 15 shots for 73 percent compared to just 8 of 14 for Glasgow for 57 percent.
As for the New Franklin boys, they matched Glasgow with 21 points in the first quarter but then outscored the Yellowjackets 10-8 in the second to lead 31-29 at the break. Meanwhile, in the second half, the Bulldogs held a 25-22 advantage to win the game by six.
New Franklin coach Ross Dobson said everyone came to play tonight and it showed in the box score.  “The guys were making hustle plays all night and I couldn’t be happier to finish the regular season with a victory,” Dobson said.  “Now our focus shifts to districts, where we can only worry about game 1.”
Gavin Bishop led three players in double figures for New Franklin, who improved to 17-8 overall and 6-4 in the CAC, with 17 points. Jackson Dorson and Kolby Anson chipped in 10 points each while Tyler Perkins, Carter Bailey and Tre’ Cowans added six points each and Tysen Dowell with two points.
For Glasgow, Adris Hamilton had 30, Briar Boss 14 and De’shonne Cowans with seven.
