The Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team extended its win streak to 16 games and in the process remained unbeaten in the Tri-County Conference Wednesday night by beating Southern Boone of Ashland 76-48.
Boonville, 21-2 overall and 6-0 in league play, outscored Southern Boone in all four quarters and led 20-14 after one, 39-22 at the half and 59-40 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, the Lady Pirates held a 17-8 advantage for the victory.
“I was hoping that we wouldn’t have a letdown tonight due to the fact that we have multiple girls in the program who haven’t been feeling well of late,” said Boonville Lady Pirates basketball coach Jaryt Hunziker.  “The girls really fought thru it tonight making sure to get the win so we could have the matchup with Osage on Monday for the outright conference title. Jodie Bass and Sophi Waibel had a great perimeter game tonight knocking down six three-point field goals between the two of them. Our focus was to get the ball inside to Jamie since Southern Boone didn’t have a true post defender that could handle her. Rebounding with quick outlets tonight by looking up the floor allowed us to get many baskets off our transition game as well. We would love to have as many fans as we can on Monday at Osage helping us try to capture the TCC title in our first year in the conference.”
Jodie Bass had the game high for Boonville with 27 points along with five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Jamie Lemmons chipped in 15 points along with six rebounds, two steals and one assist while Sophi Waibel added 14 points, Addison Brownfield six points, six steals, six assists and three rebounds, Kourtney Kendrick six points, nine rebounds, five assists and one steal, Brooke Eichelberger five points, one rebound and one steal, Kennedy Renfrow two points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal, Emma West one point and Jalyn Schnetzler with three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
For Southern Boone, Wren had nine points while Ussery and Post added seven points each.
The Lady Pirates also finished the game shooting 57 percent from the field for the night but hit just 7 of 21 shots from the foul line for 33 percent.
In the JV game, Southern Boone defeated Boonville 62-37.
The Lady Pirates, dropping to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in the TCC, trailed SBC 26-16 at the half and 40-26 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, SBC outscored Boonville 22-11.
“Battling sickness and injury made it tough for us to handle Southern Boone’s full court press tonight,” said Boonville JV coach Paul Moore. “We knew that were would be facing some quick, athletic shooters that would put pressure on both ends of the court, and that’s exactly what Southern Boone was able to do.
“Our biggest issue in this game was free throw shooting.  We did a really nice job of beating the press in the third quarter, which allowed us to get to the paint and draw fouls.  At one point, we even pulled within single digits and felt momentum swinging our way a bit.  However, we only made two of the 19 free throws that we shot, which meant that we were not finishing possessions and allowing Southern Boone to increase the gap.  Even though we were not the healthiest, I was so proud of the way the girls battled.  Hopefully we can heal up before our final game of the season next week.”
Jo Scheer had 23 points, Celissa Kennedy 16 and Avery Pickett 11 for Southern Boone.
For Boonville, Taylor Frederick chipped in 17, Emma West 15, Daylynn Baker three and Faith Mesik with two.
