Boonville JV wrestlers Hayden Mendez, Nash McKenzie and Gaige Offineer all brought home medals over the weekend after competing in the Sedalia Rookie Roundup.
Offineer finished in second place with a record of 2-1 in the 285 pound weight class while Mendez and McKenzie both took third overall. Mendez finished with a record of 1-2 in the 106 pound weight class while McKenzie was 2-2 in the 145 pound weight class.
Other wrestlers competing in the tournament for Boonville were Zane Watring at 120, Sebastian Jones at 220 and Kyle Platt at 285.
Summer Young, the coach of the LSE Pirates wrestling team, said the JV wrestlers got a lot of great experiences in today and was even able to take home some hardware.
“Gaige Offineer battled, taking home two pins and a second place medal,” Young said. “Hayden Mendez had a great first match, scrambling every second and keeping the crowd on their toes. Mendez was able to beat his opponent in that match 13-12 and place third overall. Nash McKenzie had a great first tournament, placing third overall. Nash had two great wins. Today was an exciting time to see this young squad show their hard work.”
The Boonville Pirates wrestling team will go on the road to face the Moberly Spartans on Tuesday and then compete in the Owensville Tournament on Saturday. The Boonville Pirates JV wrestling team will also compete on Saturday in the Moberly JV Tournament.
