The New Franklin boys basketball team picked up a big win on the road Friday night against the Madison Panthers 53-40.
As for the New Franklin Lady Bulldogs basketball team, they fell against Madison by a score of 43-18.
The New Franklin boys, improving to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Central Activities Conference, opened the game with a slim lead against Madison by a score of 9-8 and then outscored the Panthers 14-11 in the second quarter to extend the lead to 23-19 at the half. Meanwhile, after both teams put in 12 points in the third quarter, New Franklin came back and outscored Madison 18-9 in the fourth to win the game by seven.
“I am pleased we came out with a victory at a tough place to play on the road,” Dobson said. “It was a battle until the fourth quarter, and Madison made us earn everything on the offensive end of the ball. We had a nice balance of scoring from top to bottom and everybody chip in.  We have another big conference game next Tuesday that we will be ready for after fixing a few things on defense.”
Gavin Bishop, Tyler Perkins and Carter Bailey each had 12 points in the game for New Franklin. Kolby Anson chipped in nine while Tysen Dowell and Jackson Dorson each had four.
The Bulldogs also hit on 16 of 20 shots from the foul line for 80 percent.
For Madison, Caleb Chapman had 15 points and Jimmy Layton 14.
As for the New Franklin girls, they got off to a horrible start as the Lady Panthers led 9-1 after first period’s end and 22-10 at the half. Meanwhile, in the second half, Madison outscored New Franklin 17-8 to win the game by 25.
New Franklin coach Morgan Vetter said tough loss but the girls continue to battle injuries. “Once we get everybody healthy again I believe we will find our rhythm,” Vetter said. “We open up on Tuesday at home against another conference school, followed by a Thursday game to end play before Christmas break.”
Shelby Breshears led the scoring attack in the game for New Franklin with 10 points and six rebounds. Lauren Evans had four points and two rebounds while Kristen Flick added three points and six rebounds and Madelyn Chaney one point and three assists.
