The Boonville boys freshmen basketball team captured the consolation trophy in the Mexico Tournament on Saturday by beating Columbia Hickman 56-52.
The Pirates, improving to 3-1 on the season, outscored Hickman 42-34 in the first-three quarters and led 21-16 after one and 32-26 at the break. In the fourth quarter, the Kewpies rallied back with a 18-14 advantage.
Boonville freshmen coach Paul Stevens said the best game the boys played all year as a team. “Kids are figuring out their role and the bench played extremely well forcing a lot of turnovers and crashing the boards,” Steven said.
Tyson Franklin led three players in double figures for Boonville with 23 points while DaWan Lomax chipped in 17 and Jamesian McKee 16.
The Boonville boys freshmen basketball team will play next on Thursday, Dec. 13th at Mexico starting at 6 p.m.
