The Ss. Peter & Paul girls eighth grade basketball fell in the semifinal round of the LSE/Ss. Peter & Paul Tournament Wednesday night against Oakland 34-20.
The Lady Warriors, dropping to 4-2 on the season, trailed Oakland by only three (10-7) after first period’s end but was outscored 12-1 in the second quarter to trail 22-8 at the half. Oakland also outscored Ss. Peter & Paul 10-6 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 32-14. Meanwhile, in the final period, Ss. Peter & Paul rallied back with a 6-2 advantage.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Sarah Ronnfeldt said the girls struggled to contain two players and that hurt them. “Tonight was a tough night,” Ronnfeldt said. “We went into halftime down by 14 and then made some adjustments that really paid off. We never got a good offensive run to get us back in the game, but we were able to keep the deficit the same or under for the rest of the game. I am looking forward to the rematch we will get with Oakland next week.”
Abby Fuemmeler had 10 points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist for Ss. Peter & Paul. Katelyn Smith chipped in six points and nine rebounds while Zoey Lang added two points and two rebounds, Grace Williams two points and one rebound, Madison Smith eight rebounds, three blocked shots and one steal and Leah Ziegelbein with one steal and one assist.
