The Boonville boys freshmen basketball team overcame a five point deficit at the end of the first quarter to beat North Callaway 57-46 Wednesday night in the consolation semifinals of the Mexico Tournament.
The Pirates, 2-1 on the season, trailed North Callaway 17-12 at the end of one but rallied back with a 45-27 advantage for the rest of the game.
Boonville led 29-25 at the half and 48-25 after three quarters of play.
Boonville freshmen coach Paul Stevens said the boys played well and took care of business. “Everyone got to play and contributed in their own way to the team,” Stevens said. “This is a fun group to coach and hope we can continue having success.”
Tyson Franklin led three players in double figures for Boonville with 20 points. Jamesian McKee chipped in 16 while DaWan Lomax added 13, Memphis Waibel seven and Evan Medeiros with one.
