The Fulton boys ninth grade basketball team avenged a loss just a few days earlier by beating the Boonville Pirates 57-35 in the opening round of the Mexico Tournament on Monday.
The Pirates, dropping to 1-1 on the season, beat Fulton 49-43 in the season opener on Saturday and held a 23-22 halftime lead against the Hornets. However, in the second half, Boonville couldn’t hit anything while Fulton made everything by outscoring the Pirates 35-12 for the victory.
Boonville freshman coach Paul Stevens said the kids played hard and started the game with a 12-0 run but have to do a better job of finishing.
DaWan Lomax had the high game for Boonville with 14 points. Tyson Franklin chipped in seven while Memphis Waibel and Evan Medeiros added six points each and Darius Brady with two.
