The Boonville boys and girls cross-country team fell short while competing in the Class 3 District 5 Cross-Country Meet over the weekend at Pike County Fairgrounds in Bowling Green.
With a total of 90 runners for boys and 68 for girls, Boonville cross-country coach Melissa Baker said she told every runner on the team to hold their head high and keep setting goals and chasing them.
“Logan Pfeiffer and Cale Fox had their bar set high to make the top 15, which would qualify them for the state meet,” Baker said. “They both ran great races but needed a bit more gas at the end. We are losing six seniors this year and these underclassmen will have big shoes to fill. This team was great to work with and these kids had a long season of running. Most of the kids started running in June for preseason work, so I want each runner to be proud of their accomplishments throughout the season.”
In the final team standings for the boys, Helias finished first with 51 points.
