The Boonville Pirates soccer team was on the wrong end of a shutout Tuesday night on the road against Missouri Military Academy in Mexico.
While losing to MMA 8-0 to drop to 4-11-2 on the season, head coach Kaz James said the boys did not come out ready to play. “We gave up three goals in the first seven minutes,” James said. “They boys were very flat in the back and we did not do a good job defending the strong MMA offense. In the second half we created chances, but did not find the net. There were some good sequences for us in the second half, but it still was not enough to get us back in the game. This is another learning experience for us as we prepare for districts.”
Down 6-0 at the half while giving up goals at the 3, 6, 7, 13, 29 and 39 minute mark, the Pirates came out and played a little better in the second half while surrendering only two goals at the 54 and 74 minute mark.
MMA also finished the match with 10 shot attempts and 10 shots on goal while Boonville had seven shot attempts and five shots on goal.
Boonville junior goalie Gabe Lorenz also had a busy night for the Pirates with 12 saves.
In the JV match, Boonville defeated MMA 2-1 while playing only one 35 minute half.
Coach James said the JV soccer team played very well in a 30 minute match against MMA. “We won against a well-organized defense,” James said. “Sophomore Kameron Desmond scored two goals to push the Pirate squad to victory. The JV boys have come a long way from the beginning of the season, and has been able to show their progress in the simple fundamentals during the game.”
All three goals in the JV match were scored in the first-six minutes, with Boonville opening up the game against MMA with an unassisted goal by Kameron Desmond at the 2 minute mark. Then, after MMA punched one in at the 4 minute mark, Boonville came back with a penalty kick by Desmond, his second of the match, to go up 2-1.
The Pirates never trailed again in the match while holding MMA scoreless.
Boonville’s JV, improving to 3-5-3 on the season, finished the match with two shot attempts and three shots on goal while MMA had only one shot attempt and three shots on goal.
Boonville JV goalie Gabe Brimer had one save in the match for the Pirates.
