Closeout the regular season at 20-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play

The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team closed out the regular season Monday night against the Slater Wildcats.
Having already wrapped up their second CAC title, the Lady Tigers left little doubt against Slater by exploding for five runs in the first inning en route to a 15-0 victory.
Pilot Grove also hit the 20 win mark for the season to improve to 20-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
Pilot Grove coach Neal Bailey said it was a good day of softball for the Lady Tigers. “It was Senior Night, we hit well, played well defensively, got the 20th win for the season, and we secured the CAC title for the second year in a row.”
With the game never in doubt, the Lady Tigers sent a total of nine batters to the plate in the first and led off with an inside the park home run to center by Emily Schupp.
Pilot Grove also plated four runs in the second on five hits, which included another lead off home run to center by Schupp-her second of the game.
The Lady Tigers continued to score at will after that while pushing across three runs in each of the third and fourth innings of play to win by the mercy rule.
Senior pitcher Samarah Bailey also picked up the win in the circle for Pilot Grove for her 18th win in 21 ballgames. In four innings, Bailey struck out nine batters and gave up just one hit.
Grimes took the loss for Slater.
Pilot Grove also out-hit Slater 15-1, with Schupp going 3-for-4 with a single, two home runs and two RBIs. Melanie Wolfe was also 3-for-4 with a single, double, home run and four RBIs while Natalie Rentel added a single, double and one RBI, Leah Vollrath with a single, double and one RBI, Reagan McFatrich with two singles and three RBIs, Grace Phillips with one single and two RBIs and Bailey and Danae Lammers each with one single.
Shroyer had the only hit in the game for Slater, being a single.
