Boonville golfers Olivia Reynolds, Alisa Newbold and Iris Ehrengren couldn’t have been positioned any better after the first nine holes Monday during the Class 1 Sectional 1 Tournament at Ste. Genevieve Golf Club.
With the top 25 golfers moving on to the state tournament on October 15-16 at Mozingo Lake Recreational Park Course in Maryville, Boonville head coach Rob VanderLinden said all three girls played perhaps some of their best of the season for nine holes.
Unfortunately for the trio, the back nine proved to be the killer as all three golfers finished just outside of the qualifying mark to end their season.
“This is the time of the year where everything needs to go good and be playing at your best to qualify for the state tournament,” VanderLinden said. “The girls just could not keep it up for 18 holes and were unable to qualify so the season and career is over for these girls. Olivia Reynolds and Alisa Newbold have been part of the team since its inception four years ago. They have both improved through the years and have been a major part of building a new program from scratch. Iris, our third player, is new to the team this year as a foreign exchange student and has played a role in the success of the season.”
Ehrengren had the lowest score for Boonville with a 27-over par 100 for 31st place while Newbold finished 37th overall with a 30 over par 103 and Reynolds in 41st place with a 33-over par 106.
In the final team standings Monday at Ste. Genevieve, John Burroughs captured first with a score of 328. MICDS finished second at 363, followed by Father Tolton at 385, Mexico at 393 and Southern Boone at 394.
As for individual scores, Parker Perry of MICDS finished 3 over for the tournament with a round of 76.
