The Ss. Peter & Paul girls seventh grade volleyball team captured the championship in the Ss. Peter & Paul Tournament last Saturday by beating Our Lady of Lourdes in three sets 25-22, 24-26 and 15-7.
While finishing 3-0 in the tournament, the Lady Warriors defeated Blackwater in two straight sets in the opening round 25-9 and 25-14.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Dina Herzog said everyone was able to see playing time against Blackwater.
Alison Eichelberger led the Lady Warriors with 13 service points with six aces along with one assist, one kill and one dig.
Addy Nichols finished the match with eight kills, five service points with two aces and one dig while Kelli Young had nine service points with seven aces and two kills, Ava Esser with four service points with four aces and two assists, Bailey Atkinson with eight assists, two aces and one kill, Allison Drummond two kills and Bridgette Lutz with one ace, one assist and one dig.
In the second round, Ss. Peter & Paul defeated Our Lady of Lourdes in three sets 25-23, 20-25 and 15-11.
“We were able to beat OLLIS in three sets, which means we were seeded first in,” Herzog said.
Nichols led Ss. Peter & Paul with 12 kills along with eight service points with eight aces. Eichelberger finished the match with 10 service points with six aces, two digs and one assist while Esser had five assists and five service points with one ace, Young with six service points with four aces, Lutz four kills and three service points with two aces, Atkinson with eight assists and Drummond with three service points and three kills.
In the championship match, Herzog said the girls were able to hold off Our Lady of Lourdes.
“Our girls were down early and fought back hard for the win,” Herzog said. “This was a great win for us since this was our first tournament.”
Nichols led the Lady Warriors with 12 service points with nine aces along with five kills, three digs, two assists and one block.
Drummond finished the match with 10 service points with five aces, four kills and two assists while Esser had seven service points with seven aces, five assists and one kill, Eichelberger with five service points with three aces, four digs and two kills, Lutz with four kills, three digs, two service points and one block, Atkinson with five assists and one kill and Young with three service points with one ace.
