Pilot Grove’s Luke Kollmeyer and Bo Vinson combined for a two-hitter through six innings to lead the Tigers past Otterville Monday night in Pilot Grove 12-2.
The Tigers, improving to 4-5 on the season, opened the game with one run in the first and then sent seven runs across in the third, one again in the fourth and three in the sixth to win by the mercy rule.
Pilot Grove coach Evan Oswald said the team put together a nice offensive night and pounded out 11 hits. “It sure is nice to see all the hard work paying off and to see the boys having fun out there,” Oswald said. “Luke Kollmeyer and Bo Vinson combined for a no-hitter. They couldn’t do it though, without the help of their teammates. We made some really good plays tonight. We will look to continue this momentum going into our last game Friday. I am very happy with our performance this fall. The boys have really grown since opening day of practice. I look for us to be a dangerous team in the spring.”
Kollmeyer picked up the win on the mound for Pilot Grove. In 5 1/3 innings, Kollmeyer struck out seven batters and gave up just two runs on six walks. Vinson then came in and pitched 2/3 inning in relief and struck out one batter.
Pilot Grove also out-hit Otterville 11-0, with Kollmeyer going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Gavin Shepherd was 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI while Bo Vinson added two singles, Cole Meisenheimer and Kealin Vinson each with one double and one RBI, Laben Twenter and Seth Blumhorst with one single and one RBI each and Hayden Krumm with one single.
