Drops to 4-7 on the season
The Boonville Lady Pirates softball team had a combination of bad luck and lack of hitting Monday night in a 7-3 loss against the Fulton Hornets.
While the hitting was fairly close with Fulton holding a 7-5 advantage, the Lady Pirates once again struggled defensively by committing three errors.
“We gave them too many runs,” Zoeller said. “This was a very winnable game for us but we just struggled to put it all together. We know we have to hit and we just couldn’t string anything together. We have to find a way to persevere and put seven innings together.”
Despite the lackluster hitting and defensive miscues, the Lady Pirates were right there with Fulton tied at 3-all after 4 1/2 innings. However in the bottom half of the fifth, Boonville couldn’t buy an out while giving up four runs on just one hit and one walk while committing three errors to trail 7-3.
The Lady Pirates (4-7) never recovered after that while putting only one runner on base for the next-two innings.
Echelmeier picked up the win in the circle for Fulton while Peyton Kempf took the loss for Boonville, dropping her to 2-6 on the season. Kempf pitched five innings and gave up seven runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Emma West then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed just two hits.
Kettle and Trowbridge each had two hits in the game for Fulton.
For Boonville, Kourtney Kendrick went 2-for-3 with two singles. Daylynn Baker singled and drove in one run while Josie Robb and Peyton Kempf added one single.
In the JV game, Boonville defeated Fulton 3-1 to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Although the Lady Pirates wound up scoring two runs in the fourth to take the lead for good, the game was tied at 1-all after two.
Brooke Eichelberger picked up the win for Boonville in the circle and gave up just one run on two hits and six walks while striking out six batters in five innings.
Olivia Eichelberger and Alexis Trigg had the only hits in the game for Boonville, both being singles. Mia Hatter and Becky Evans each drove in one run.
