The Boonville Pirates JV football team overcame a sluggish first half to beat the California Pintos 33-16 Monday night in California.
While the win improved Boonville’s record to 2-2 on the season, head coach Seth Brimer said the JV team had trouble moving the ball in the first half so they really challenged the kids at halftime. “We told them that we were going to lineup our best versus theirs and run the ball straight at them,” Brimer said. “We came out and did just that. Our kids played extremely well and were very physical. Facing a lot of adversity this week with injuries and some other things, the guys shrugged it off and just played football.”
Although Boonville took a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter against California, the Pintos answered right back in the second quarter to go up at the half 8-7. The Pirates then went to smash-mouth football in the second half by outscoring California 26-8 for the victory.
DJ Wesolak led all rushers in the game for Boonville with 14 carries for 124 yards and one touchdown while DaWan Lomax had seven carries for 72 yards and one touchdown, Andrew Wiser with 12 carries for 58 yards and Harper Stock with two carries for 24 yards and one touchdown.
