The New Franklin Bulldogs baseball team fell at home Tuesday night against Cairo 4-0.
Despite the loss, which dropped New Franklin to 0-4 overall, head coach Erich Gerding said junior pitcher Gavin Bishop was terrific on the mound and so was Davis and Taylor for Cairo.
“They made more and better adjustments offensively than we did,” Gerding said. “If this group is ever going to compete consistently at a high level, they need to continue to get performances like this from Gavin combined with approaches at the plate that look like we have a clue what we are doing, but credit to Cairo for a well played game. Gotta get back at it and find a way to get better.”
Jacob Davis picked up the win on the mound for Cairo while Gavin Bishop took the loss for New Franklin. Bishop pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out 10 batters while giving up four runs on eight hits and one walk. Koy Harris then came in and pitched 1/3 inning of scoreless baseball.
Cairo also out-hit New Franklin 8-0, with Davis going 3-for-3 with two singles and one double. Kenny Brunkhorst was 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
