Pilot Grove seniors Samarah Bailey and Melanie Wolfe were both dialed up Monday night in their home opener against the Harrisburg Bulldogs.
While Bailey improved to 3-1 on the season by pitching a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, Wolfe was perfect at the plate with three hits and five RBIs to power the Lady Tigers past Harrisburg 10-0 in five innings.
Pilot Grove coach Neal Bailey said it took the team a full time through the order to really adjust to Harrisburg's pitching.
“She mixed it up well, but we were able to settle in with good plate appearance for 13 hits in 4 innings of at bats,” Bailey said. “I was happy with the way the girls were able to adjust mid-game to produce some hits. Defensively their wasn't much happening. Only a few balls were put in play and two baserunners all game. We threw one of them out in an attempt to steal second.”
The Lady Tigers also scored in every inning but one against Harrisburg by pushing across two runs in the first, six again in the third and two in the fourth.
The win was also Samarah Bailey’s third of the season in four games. As for Wolfe, the senior catcher finished the game with a single, double, home run and five runs batted in.
Bailey also had two doubles in the game while Grace Phillips added two singles, Emily Schupp and Reagan McFatrich with one double and two RBIs each and Abby Schupp, Natalie Rentel, Leah Vollrath and Natalie Glenn each with one single.
For Harrisburg, Fischer and Heuer each had one hit. Combs took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs by giving up 10 runs on 13 hits and two walks in four innings.
