Central Diesel’s softball held off a rally by CARSTAR in the final inning for a 17-14 win Sunday in Babe Ruth 10U softball at Lions park.
Central Diesel, improving to 3-5 on the season, had a great start with six runs in the top half of the first only to have CARSTAR rally back with six in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 6-all. Meanwhile, after Central Diesel tacked on another run in the second and four again in the third to go up 11-6, CARSTAR rallied back again with four runs to cut the lead to one at 11-10. Unfortunately for CARSTAR, they never got any closer in the ballgame as Central Diesel plated five more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to extend the lead to 17-10.
CARSTAR didn’t go down without a fight, though. In the bottom half of the fifth, CARSTAR rattled the bats again with four runs to cut the lead to three.
Payton Kindle picked up the win in the circle for Central Diesel while Addisson Johnson took the loss for CARSTAR, who dropped to 2-8 on the season. Kindle pitched all five innings and gave up 14 runs on two hits and 20 walks while striking out four batters. Johnson, meanwhile, pitched all five innings and gave up 17 runs on 12 hits and seven walks while striking out eight.
Central Diesel also out-hit CARSTAR 12-2, with Browyn Eubanks going 3-for-4 with two singles, one double and one RBI.
Cayle John and Leah Thies each had two singles while Addy Gibbs and Melissa Innes added one single and one RBI each. Payton Kindle, Ella Dowling and Mariah Felten each had one single.
For CARSTAR, Brooklyn Brown doubled while Hunter Scott singled.
Note: This game was a makeup from May 21st. Central Diesel and CARSTAR played 1 1/2 innings but had to stop the game due to the lights not coming on at dark.
