One goal.
That’s all it took for the Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team to beat Hannibal Friday night in the regular season finale at the BHS Sports Complex.
After losing to Hannibal 4-2 earlier in the season at Hannibal, the Lady Pirates returned the favor in dramatic fashion with a 1-0 win on the lone goal by senior Maddie Weber.
But more importantly, Boonville and Hannibal will now share the NCMC title at 11-1.
The win also put Boonville at 14-4-1 on the season with their 11th shutout of the season.
Boonville Lady Pirates soccer coach Kaz James said the girls played a great first half.
“We dominated Hannibal and created some good opportunities,” James said. “The girls were able to find the back of the net in the second half. Maddie Weber played a great game up top. She scored the game winning goal for us. Leigha Vollmer held our back line together and kept a shut out, and Sarah Miller did an outstanding job in goal by also not allowing any goals. The girls are co-champs with Hannibal. This is their fourth conference championship.”
With a scoreless game after 40 minutes of play, the Lady Pirates didn’t take long to get their first and only goal of the match when Sariana Barbarotta took a deflected ball off the top bar and passed it to Weber for the goal at the 45 minute mark.
The goal was Weber’s sixth of the season while Barbarotta pushed her total to a team-leading 17 assists.
Boonville also finished the match with six shot attempts and two shots on goal while Hannibal had only four shot attempts and two shots on goal.
Boonville sophomore goalie Sarah Miller, meanwhile, had four saves in the match.
Boonville also won the JV match against Hannibal 3-0.
James said the JV team started out strong and scored two goals before the half. “Mille Dorman, Amanda Mize and Eliza Adams scored this game,” Jame said. “The girls ended on a positive note with this being their last game of the season. They were a fun group to watch and coach this season. I look forward to next season.”
Mille Dorman opened the game with an unassisted goal at the 14 minute mark. Then, three minute later, Amanda Mize came back with a goal on the assist by Leila Green to extend the lead to 2-0. Meanwhile, after going up 2-0 at the break, Boonville added its third goal of the match at the 35 minute mark by Eliza Adams.
Boonville’s JV, who finished the season at 9-5-1 overall, also finished with four shot attempts and four shots on goal while Hannibal had only one shot attempt and two shots on goal.
Boonville freshman goalie Julianne Bromagen, meanwhile, finished the match with two saves.
