The Boonville Pirates tennis team picked up where they left off last Friday in the NCMC Tournament in Fulton.
Hosting Mexico Tuesday in the semifinal round of the Class 1 District 7 Tournament at the high school tennis courts, the No. 1 seeded Pirates cruised as expected against the Bulldogs by winning all five matches for a 5-0 victory.
Boonville will host No. 2 Kirksville today at the high school tennis courts starting at 4  p.m. The winner will move on to sectionals on Saturday, May 19th at a site to be determined.
Boonville Pirates tennis coach Stephanie Green said the team played very solidly in doubles starting out.
“All three teams moved and controlled the court well,” Green said. “Our service games looked much more consistent and strong which certainly helped solidify these wins. Francesco Bona played confidently and made smart shots throughout the match. He and Chrisman finished the match for us with their efficient play. Across the board our singles looked like they are where they need to be at this time in the season. It was a good match for us to advance to the district championship against Kirksville.”
Starting with the doubles matches first, the Pirates won all three sets by the identical score of 8-1 to lead Mexico 3-0 in the team standings.  It only takes five wins to secure the team victory.
Recording wins for Boonville in doubles was the No. 1 team of  Bona and Luke Rehagen over Ryan Shopher and Muhammed Waheed, Kyle Chrisman and Gabe Rumbaoa over Kaleb Mason and Casey Hamilton at the No. 2 position, and Josh Chrisman and Quin Gentry over the team of Andrea Maffezzoni and Spencer Harris at the No. 3 slot.
