The New Franklin boys and girls track team had its final tune-up before districts bycompeting in the annual Larry Littrell Invitational Wednesday in Glasgow.
While competing against a field of 17 girls teams and 15 boys teams, New Franklin coach Adam Quest said for the events they did compete, they definitely had some things to be excited about.
“Unfortunately, we had a key injury just before the meet, so our girls lineup was a bit sparse,” Quest said.
Senior Madison Matney had the highest place finish for the Lady Bulldogs by placing second in both the shot put and discus with throws of 34’-1/4” and 104’-2”, respectively.
Mallori Burnett also finished third in the 3200-meter run in a time of 14:39.39.
As for the New Franklin boys, Sam Ridgeway placed third in the 3200-meter run in 12:19.73 while Hayden Wiseman took fourth in the same event in 12:59.03.
In the final team standings, the Glasgow boys and girls captured first with a total of 126 and 148 points, respectively.
Paris boys finished second with 99 points, followed by Salisbury at 95.5, African Centered College Preparatory 93, Brunswick 79.5, Slater 55, Higbee 40, Hale 33, Sweet Springs 27, New Franklin 23, Harrisburg 18, Madison 16, Sturgeon 11, Northwestern 6 and Keytesville 5.
For the girls, Paris finished second with 105 points. Salisbury placed third with 77 points, followed by Harrisburg at 58, African Centered College Preparatory 54, Sweet Springs 53.5, Slater 33, Northwestern and New Franklin at 31, Brunswick 26, Hale 24, Higbee 21, Malta Bend 18.5, Sturgeon 18, Madison and Keytesville at 10 and Pilot Grove at 2.
The New Franklin boys and girls junior high track teams closed out its season in the annual Larry Littrell Invitational on Wednesday.
New Franklin coach Morgan Vetter said this was a very good season with a very talented group, both boys and girls.
For the New Franklin boys, Douglas Bowen finished second in both the 100-meter dash in 13.33 seconds and 400-meter dash in 59.10 seconds.
Third place finishers for the Bulldogs were the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Bowen, Nick Postak, Tiernan Hoover and Tre Cowans in 54.69 seconds and the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Daniel Clay, Cowans, Hoover and Postak in 4:34.
Clay also placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.97.
For the New Franklin girls, Abygale Maupin finished second in the triple jump at 31’-3” and third in the 100-meter dash in 14.88 seconds. Maupin also ran a leg on the 4 x 100-meter relay team along with Elaina Henderson, Faith Painter and Helen Salmon, which finished second in 58.34 seconds.
Carly Dorson placed third in the 400-meter dash in 1:12.58 and then ran a leg on the 4 x 400-meter relay team along with Dakota Clark, Salmon and Henderson, which finished third in 5:05.36.
