The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team did everything by the book in the first half Tuesday night against Marshall.
While hosting the Lady Owls on Senior-Parents Night at the BHS Sports Complex, Boonville did all of its scoring in the first half with five goals and then put it on cruise in the second half for a 5-0 victory.
Boonville Lady Pirates soccer coach Kaz James said the girls played awesome in the first half.
“I thought the girls came out strong and moved the ball really well,” James said. “There were some great combinations in the center. The seniors put on a great show and kept a shutout this game. Leigha Vollmer got her first goal of her high school career. Olivia Gholson had a great game with being aggressive in the back, and Sariana Barbarotta had two goals while Brynn Edwards and Kate Peterson each had a goal and an assist.”
With just three matches left in the regular season before districts, the Lady Pirates wasted little time getting on the board against Marshall by scoring 10 minutes in on an assisted goal by Edwards, her ninth of the season.
Two minutes later, Kate Peterson picked up her team-leading 21st goal of the season at the 12 minute mark on an assist by Brooke Coleman to extend the lead to 2-0. The assist was Coleman’s third of the season.
Junior Sariana Barbarotta also had two goals on the night for 14 and 15th for the season. Barbarotta’s first goal came at the 21st minute mark on the assist by Edwards. The assist was Edwards ninth of the season. Then, at the 26 minute mark, Barbarotta answered again with an unassisted goal to push the lead to 4-0.
The final goal in the game came at the 33 minute mark by Leigha Vollmer with the assist from Kate Peterson. The assist was also Peterson’s ninth of the season.
Boonville also finished the match with 25 shot attempts and 20 shots on goal while Marshall had only three shot attempts and three shots on goal.
Boonville sophomore goalie Sarah Miller, meanwhile, finished the match with three saves.
Boonville had seven fouls in the game compared to four for Marshall.
In the JV game, Boonville defeated Marshall by a score of 2-0.
The Lady Pirates JV, improving to 8-4 on the season, also scored both goals in the first half for the win.
James said the girls played a great game against Marshall. “They moved the ball around well, played tough and finished their opportunities,” James said. “Eliza Adams scored one for us and Macey Nowlin scored her second of the season. Leila Green had some quality opportunities as well. Julianne Bromagen earned a shutout.”
Boonville’s first goal came at the 19 minute mark by Eliza Adams and assist by Heather Kempf. Then, at the 34 minute mark, Macey Nowlin scored her second goal of the season on the assist by Adams.
Boonville’s JV also finished the match with seven shot attempts and three shots on goal while Marshall had four shot attempts and four shots on goal.
