The Boonville Pirates golf team had the best of both worlds Monday during the Class 3 District 5 Tournament at Jefferson City Country Club.
While finishing third overall as a team, the Pirate golfers also had two medalists and four qualifiers for the Class 3 Sectional Tournament this coming Monday at Marshall.
In the final team standings, Helias captured first with a team score of 315. Osage finished second at 342, followed by Boonville at 367, Marshall at 368, Bolivar at 381, Eldon at 386, Moberly at 431, Southern Boone at 462 and Hillcrest at 81.
Boonville Pirates golf coach Rob VanderLinden said the all-district team consists of the top 15 golfers. He said junior Reece Lang finished tied for fourth with a 9-over par 81 while senior Thomas Simmons placed 15th with a 16-over par 88. Both golfers received medals for being on the all-district team, VanderLinden said.
Sophomores Jake Horst and Brayden Page also punched their ticket on Monday by finishing 21st and 24th, respectively. Horst shot a 25 over par 97 while Page finished with a 29 over par 101.
Boonville senior Mason Hage, meanwhile, finished in 30th place with a 37 over par 109.
VanderLinden said after the top 15 they took the next eight golfers to go to the next round, which included both Horst and Page.
Jake Rundle of Helias captured the individual title with a 1-under par 71.
Cole Higgins, also of Helias, finished second with a 6 over par 78, followed by Ethan M. Kline of Osage and Bryson Patrick Yowell of Moberly tied for third at 79, Lance Andrue Brackett of Hillcrest and Reece Lang at 81, Alexander Gentry of Helias and Ethan Johnson of Helias at 83, Drake Johnson of Bolivar and Zachary Krantz of Osage at 84, Jacob Krantz of Osage, Larry Plunkett of Helias and Evan Weaver of Marshall at 85, Austin Kostelnik of Eldon at 87 and Grant Mach of Marshall and Thomas Simmons at 88.
