The Boonville Pirates golf team had another successful day on Monday in the Sacred Heart Tournament at Sedalia Country Club by finishing second out of five teams.
St. Pius X out of Kansas City took home the team title from the tournament with a score of 311 while Boonville finished 22 strokes back with a score of 333. Clinton finished third with a score of 347, followed by Butler at 366 and Eldon at 370.
Boonville Pirates golf coach Rob VanderLinden said it was a cold, windy day on a tough golf course but the Pirates scored their best tournament score of the year. “Monday was another team effort with all the golfers playing well and all within nine shots of each other,” VanderLinden said. “It takes all five to place as a team and all five did so well, that they were all medalist for the tournament. There were 93 golfers competing and the top 15 received a medal.”
Cole Elling of St. Pius X had the top score for the tournament with a 2-over par 72.
Austin Gillund of Clinton finished second with a score of 76, followed by Reece Lang and Tristan Bolin of Tipton tied with a score of 78, Tony Bonadonna of St. Pius X 80, Alex Brown of Summit Christian 81, Zac Racy of St. Pius X 82, Jake Horst, Brayden Page and Mason Hage all tied with a score of 85, Brendon Bauer Stover and Marshall Whitworth tied with a score of 86 and Thomas Simmons, Bo Kroenke of Lincoln and Austin Kolstenik with a score of 87.
With the low score for Boonville, Lang finished the tournament with one birdie, 12 pars and three bogeys. Horst had three pars and 13 bogeys while Page added four pars and 11 bogeys, Hage four pars and 13 bogeys and Simmons with eight pars and six bogeys.
