The Bunceton Lady Dragons softball team had another tough night on Wednesday by dropping a 18-3 score against the Concordia Orioles.
The Lady Dragons, falling to 2-7 on the season, trailed Concordia 14-0 after the first-two innings before rallying back with two in the third and one again in the fourth to cut the lead to 14-3. However, in the bottom-half of the fourth, Concordia tacked on four more runs to win by the mercy rule.
Bunceton coach Brian Emde said it was a cold and very windy day.
“Concordia scored 10 runs in the first inning and didn’t look back,” Emde said. “Taylor Burnett pitched a good game but we committed seven errors, which is way too many against a good Concordia team, who improved to 11-3 on the season.”
Brooks picked up the win in the circle for Concordia while Burnett took the loss for Bunceton, dropping her to 0-4 on the season. In three innings pitched, Burnett gave up 18 runs on 12 hits and five walks while striking out three.
Concordia also out-hit Bunceton 12-7. Collecting hits in the game for Bunceton were Jenna Kahle with a single, home run and one RBI. Reagan Triebsch finished the game with a single, triple and one RBI while Chloe Moser, Skyler Shuffield and Abby Young added one single each.

Dragons fall to Smithton, 16-6
The Bunceton Lady Dragons softball team had a bad first inning and that proved to be the difference in a 16-6 loss Monday night at Smithton.
The Lady Dragons, dropping to 1-6 on the season, surrendered 14 runs in the bottom-half of the first but outscored Smithton 6-2 over the next-four innings.
Bunceton coach Brian Emde said Smithton’s first 14 batters of the game all reached and scored to start the game. “We could never recover after that,” Emde said.
Madison Brown picked up the win in the circle for Smithton while Taylor Burnett took the loss for Bunceton. Burnett pitched part of the first and gave up nine runs on six hits and three walks. Skyler Shuffield then came in and pitched four innings and allowed seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out eight.
As for the hitting in the game for Bunceton, Jenna Kahle went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs. Shuffield and Autumn Bishop also had two singles and drove in one run each while Reagan Triebsch added one triple, Cara Bishop one double and two RBIs and Chloe Moser and Taylor Burnett each with one single.
