The Prairie Home boys finished seventh out of 12 teams while the Lady Panthers placed 12th while competing in the Westran Relays last week in Huntsville.
Prairie Home coach Marie Pope said it was a beautiful day with lots of sunburns to be had. “This was a big meet for us with a lot of bigger Class 2 schools, so I was happy that we walked away with 11 top 10 finishes,” Pope said. “It was our first medal meet, so the kids really enjoyed earning some hardware.”
Competing in the meet along with Prairie Home were: Community, Glasgow, Harrisburg, Higbee, Madison, New Franklin, Paris, Salisbury, Slater, Sturgeon and Westran.
Junior Blake Petsel had the top finish for the Panthers by placing second in the 100-meter dash in 11.47 seconds and second in the 200-meter dash in 23.11 seconds.
Third place finishers for Prairie Home were Sage Eichenburch in the 1600-meter run in 5:08.64 and the 4x100 Relay  of Creed Flood, Clayton Pethan, Blake Petsel and Gabe Turner in 48.62 seconds.
The Panthers also had a pair of fourth place finishers. Pethan finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in 55.75 seconds, as did the 4  x 400-meter relay team of Creed Flood, Austin Small, Ryan Small and Allen Haslag in 4:10.95.
Other place finishers for Prairie Home had Allen Haslag finished fifth in the 3200 in 13:29.50 and 10th in the 1600 in 5:48.26; Eichenburch sixth in the 800 in 2:33.87 and eighth in the 300 hurdles in 54.40 seconds; Gabe Turner ninth in the long jump at 17’-2”, 10th in the triple jump at 31’-3 1/4” and 13th in the discus at 79’-0”; Ryan Small ninth in the 300 hurdles in 55.41 seconds and 15th in the 800 in 3:11.99; Creed Flood 14th in the long jump at 16’-1” and 16th in the 100-meter dash in 13.27 seconds; Clayton Pethan 11th in the 200 in 24.96 seconds; and Austin Small in the 400 in 1:04.61.
As for the Prairie Home girls, Kourtney Kendrick finished fourth in the 100 in 13.81 seconds, seventh in the 200 in 29.13 seconds and 12th in the long jump at 12’-11”. Kelsey Watson placed ninth in the 100 in 14.37 seconds, 13th in the long jump at 12’-8” and 16th in the 200 in 31.83 seconds. Olivia Strobel, meanwhile, finished 13th in the shot put at 26’-10 1/4”, 17th in the discus at 53’-6” and 22nd in the 200 in 41.64 seconds.
