Prairie Home goes to 3-0 with 12-4 win over Calvary Lutheran
The Prairie Home Panthers baseball team remained perfect on the season by beating Calvary Lutheran 12-4 in league play Monday night at Prairie Home.
The Panthers, 3-0 on the season, trailed Calvary Lutheran 2-1 after two innings before rallying back with three in the third and two in the fourth to go up 6-2. Then, after Calvary Lutheran tacked on two more runs in the fifth to cut the lead back to two at 6-4, Prairie Home sent two in the bottom-half of the inning to extend the lead to 8-4. The Panthers also added four in the sixth to win the game by eight.
Prairie Home coach Trever Huth said the team played a good game overall. “Our defense kept us in it from the start to the end,” Huth said. “We had a few plays that we got ourselves out of trouble, which was great to see. I thought the pitchers threw the ball well for the most part. We just need to work on throwing more strikes and not walking the lead off batter. Offensively, I thought we swung the bats well. We still need to work on a couple things but overall I am very pleased with how we played.”
Talon Benne picked up the win in relief for Prairie Home while Ian MacLaughlin took the loss for Calvary Lutheran. Blake Petsel started the game for Prairie Home and struck out four batters in two innings. He also walked two. Benne then came in and pitched two innings and allowed two runs on one hit and four walks while striking out two batters. Then, to finish the game, Clayton Pethan pitched three innings and issued two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out six batters.
Prairie Home also out-hit Calvary Lutheran 9-4, with Blake Petsel and Pethan each going 2-for-4 with two singles and two RBIs. Blane Petsel finished the game with two singles and one RBI while Creed Flood added a single and two RBIs, Billy Kellum and Alex Rhode each with one single and one RBI and Benne and Mason Wells with one RBI each.
